The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has activated US$500,000 in funding for the Black Challenge under its two-year sponsorship agreement with Gold Fields Ghana Limited, as the national amputee football team intensifies preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup.
The funding forms part of Gold Fields Ghana’s US$5 million commitment to Ghanaian football, announced when the mining company became an official partner of the GFA on May 8, 2026, in Accra.
The allocation is expected to cover key expenses associated with the team’s preparations, including accommodation, meals, air travel and allowances, ensuring the players receive the necessary support ahead of the international competition.
As part of its efforts to strengthen the team’s preparations, the GFA has supplied more than 30 footballs and training cones to support the technical team’s training programme.
The Association’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, has also visited the players at training on several occasions to monitor their progress, assess their needs and discuss measures to improve their preparations.
During his latest visit, Addo assured the team that official national jerseys bearing the players’ names, together with camp wear and training kits branded with the Gold Fields sponsorship, would be provided.
The GFA has further paid the team’s visa fees for travel to Turkey and Mexico as part of arrangements for its international engagements. Discussions are also underway to strengthen the team’s medical support through the addition of two physiotherapists and a doctor during the preparation period.
The Association is working closely with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Paralympic Committee to coordinate arrangements for the Black Challenge’s participation in the tournament.
The Gold Fields Ghana partnership extends beyond the Black Challenge, supporting other national football teams, including the Black Stars and Black Queens, as well as the Women’s Premier League.
The sponsorship represents a broader investment in the development of Ghanaian football, with the GFA seeking to ensure that the various teams receive the resources required to compete effectively at both domestic and international levels.
The GFA has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Black Challenge throughout its World Cup preparations, with the aim of ensuring that the team is adequately equipped to represent Ghana on the global stage.
