Ampem Darkoa Ladies beat Edo Queens to qualify for 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3–2 following extra time in Cairo, Egypt.

The qualification follows a ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which upheld Ampem Darkoa’s protest over a procedural error during the WAFU Zone B final played on September 5, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The original encounter ended 2–2 after regulation time, but the match proceeded directly to a penalty shootout instead of the required 30 minutes of extra time. Edo Queens won the shootout 4–1 and were initially declared winners.

Ampem Darkoa subsequently challenged the decision, prompting CAF to annul the penalty shootout and order the match to resume from the start of extra time in Cairo.

During the continuation, Ampem Darkoa found the decisive goal to secure a 3–2 victory and book their place at the continental tournament.

The qualification marks Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, providing another opportunity for the Ghanaian side to compete against some of Africa’s leading women’s football clubs.

Ampem Darkoa have been drawn in Group B of the 2026 competition, where they will face Morocco’s AS FAR, Mali’s USFAS Bamako and Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies.

The 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League is scheduled to take place in Egypt from November 1 to 15, with Ampem Darkoa aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage and represent Ghana with distinction.
