Ghana’s U-12 Rugby Champions Present Medals to Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams after Ivory Coast Victory
Accra, February 12th, 2026– Ghana’s under-12 boys rugby team, the Eaglets, presented their trophy and Gold medals to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, after winning the Marie Kore International Rugby Tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
The team returned home as champions after defeating Ivory Coast 10–5 in a tough final. During a brief ceremony held today, February 12, 2026, the young players proudly handed over their medals to Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams as a symbol of national pride and appreciation.

The President of Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Ms. Rafatu Inusah took the opportunity to share some of the challenges faced by the team and how they managed to succeed despite obstacles.
She also appeal for support for both Men and Women Rugby National teams and the U-12 team during this year’s preparation for their international competition.
Hon. Kofi Adams congratulated the young athletes on their outstanding performance, praising their dedication, sportsmanship, and discipline. He urged them to continue working hard, stay focused, and serve as ambassadors of Ghanaian sports. “We have the talent; what weq need now are the amenities and infrastructure to nurture and develop rugby further,” he stated. “It’s also crucial to integrate rugby into our school sports programs to cultivate future stars.”

The Minister acknowledged that funding remains a challenge for many sports disciplines but assured that the government has established platforms to mobilize resources to support young athletes and sports development. He advised the U12 team members to prioritize their education, listen to their coaches, teachers, and parents, and remain disciplined both on and off the field.
The tournament, which aimed to promote rugby among youth and provide a platform for showcasing young talent, featured teams from several West African countries. The victory of the Ghana Rugby Eaglets was not just about lifting the trophy; it symbolized unity, perseverance, and national pride.
