Frederick Lartey Otu’s Impressive Global Sports Leadership Portfolio Highlights Remarkable Achievements Ahead of Ghana Taekwondo Elections

As the Ghana Taekwondo Federation heads to the polls on Saturday, July 18, 2026 delegates will be choosing leaders capable of taking the sport to greater heights.

Among the candidates, incumbent President Frederick Lartey Otu stands out with an outstanding record of achievements and an impressive portfolio that has earned him recognition both in Ghana and on the international stage.

Over the years, Otu has established himself as one of Ghana’s most respected sports administrators through his dedication, visionary leadership, and commitment to the growth of taekwondo and sports development.

His growing influence in world taekwondo is reflected in his appointment as a Member of the World Taekwondo Development Committee, where he contributes to policies and programmes aimed at developing the sport across the globe.

At the continental level, Otu serves as a Council Member of the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU) and also chairs the AFTU Development Committee. In these roles, he has been at the forefront of initiatives designed to strengthen taekwondo across Africa by supporting athlete development, coach education, and the expansion of the sport to emerging nations.

His leadership extends beyond taekwondo. Otu is currently the Second Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), where he contributes to the strategic development of Olympic sports in Ghana and supports the country’s preparations for major international competitions.

He also serves as the Second Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, playing an important role in Ghana’s participation and athlete preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

Demonstrating his commitment to inclusive sports, Otu is the Vice President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana, where he continues to support the growth of para-sports and opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

His outstanding contributions to sports administration have earned national recognition. In 2015, he was named Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Association President of the Year, an award that acknowledged his exceptional leadership and dedication to the development of taekwondo in Ghana.

During his tenure as President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Otu has overseen significant progress in the federation. His administration has focused on strengthening grassroots development, improving technical education for coaches and referees, increasing Ghana’s participation in international competitions, and building stronger relationships with the World Taekwondo and the African Taekwondo Union.

Under his leadership, Ghana Taekwondo has continued to gain international recognition, with Ghanaian athletes competing at major continental and global championships while the federation has strengthened its governance and development structures.

With an enviable portfolio that spans the World Taekwondo, African Taekwondo Union, Ghana Olympic Committee, Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, National Paralympic Committee Ghana, and national sports administration, Frederick Lartey Otu has built a reputation as one of Ghana’s most accomplished sports leaders.
