Road to Morocco: How Black Queens Qualified for Women’s AFCON 2024

Black Queens of Ghana qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations despite losing second leg 1-0 away to Namibia in their dramatic final qualifier in Pretoria, South Africa.

Ghana returns to the continental stage after agonisingly missing out on qualification for the last tournament in 2022.

It will be the first time the Black Queens will be playing in the WAFCON since they last hosted the event in 2018.

Under Hauptle’s leadership, the Black Queens have undergone a remarkable transformation, showcasing an elevated level of play. The team, previously struggling to qualify for the previous tournament, have become a joy to watch, with many acknowledging their newfound brilliance.

Hauptle and her side now join hosts Morocco, South Africa, and Algeria, who had already booked their slots on Monday. Record champions Nigeria are also on the verge of qualification.
