PLAYER RATINGS: Mohammed Kudus and Jordan Ayew shine in Ghana’s crucial win over South Korea

There was yet another World Cup classic on Monday as Ghana secured a crucial 3-2 victory over South Korea in Group H.

In an end-to-end encounter, Ghana raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus – both arriving from Jordan Ayew crosses.

South Korea then hit back after the break with two superb headers from Cho Gue-Sung levelling the game, before Kudus restored Ghana’s lead seven minutes later to win it.

Despite huge Korean pressure, Ghana held firm and saw out the game to earn the three points, while South Korea boss Paulo Bento was dismissed by English referee Anthony Taylor after full-time.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi – Perhaps a little theatrical but made some really important saves when Ghana were under severe pressure at the end. 7

Tariq Lamptey – Looked the player who had caught the eye for Brighton last year as he was combative and efficient on the right side. 7

Daniel Amartey – The Leicester City man was resolute when South Korea were bombarding the box with crosses late on, winning header after header. 7

Mohamed Salisu – Scored his second international goal in just his fifth cap and was solid with Amartey at the back to help hold on for the win. 7.5

Gideon Mensah – Was impressive up and down the left and helped to set up Kudus’ winner. 7

Salis Abdul Samed – Did his job at the base of the midfield and helped to wrestle control back for Ghana in the first half. 7

Thomas Partey – Not at his best but another part of a memorable win. 6.5

Mohammed Kudus – Absolutely brilliant and showed why he’s been shining in the Champions League this season – great glancing header for his first and a fine slotted finish for the winner. 9

Jordan Ayew – A fantastic display from the hard-working Crystal Palace forward as he put in two superb balls for Ghana’s opening two goals. 8

Andre Ayew – Worked hard up-front and linked well with his brother Jordan, Kudus and Williams. 7

Inaki Williams – Did a lot of work that went under the radar, and his blushes were saved after fluffing his shot, only to see the ball deviate to Kudus for the winner, giving Williams a rather bizarre assist. 7
