Hundreds of Ghanaian supporters were left disappointed outside Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday after being unable to gain entry to Ghana’s FIFA World Cup group-stage match against Croatia despite travelling thousands of miles to support the Black Stars.
Many of the affected fans had journeyed more than 5,000 miles from Accra and other parts of Ghana, hoping to cheer on the national team in one of the country’s biggest World Cup matches. Instead, they found themselves gathered on the sidewalks outside the stadium, waiting for tickets that never arrived.
Confusion surrounded the situation, with no clear explanation as to who was responsible for distributing the tickets. Some supporters believed a representative of a fan association was expected to deliver them, while others claimed that tickets originally promised to the group may have been sold on the resale market.

As frustration grew, security around the gate was increased. Police presence doubled and then tripled, with officers describing their deployment as a precautionary measure to maintain order. While a few tense exchanges occurred between some supporters and law enforcement personnel, the majority of fans remained calm, spending their time making phone calls and discussing possible ways to secure entry.
Despite their hopes, no tickets materialised. Approximately 30 minutes after kick-off, police cleared the area, directing the disappointed Ghanaian supporters away from the stadium gates and back toward the parking lots.
The unfortunate scenes cast a shadow over what was a crucial World Cup fixture for Ghana, leaving many loyal fans heartbroken after making the long journey to support the Black Stars on football’s biggest stage.
