President John Dramani Mahama has rallied support for the Black Stars ahead of their opening match against Panama at the FIFA World Cup 2026, urging Ghanaians both at home and abroad to unite behind the national team as they begin their quest for glory on football’s biggest stage.
In a message of solidarity, the President reaffirmed that the Government and people of Ghana stand firmly behind the Black Stars as they embark on their fifth FIFA World Cup campaign. He encouraged the players to represent the nation with courage, discipline, unity, and pride.
“Play for the flag. Play for the children dreaming of greatness in your footsteps,” President Mahama stated.
The President also called on Ghanaians in Toronto and across North America to act as the team’s “12th Man” by creating a strong atmosphere of support inside the stadium. He further assured football fans back home that official television broadcast rights have been secured, ensuring nationwide access to all Black Stars matches throughout the tournament.
Ghana will face Panama in their opening Group L fixture at Toronto Stadium on Wednesday, June 17, with kick-off scheduled for 11:00 PM GMT. The match marks the first-ever senior international meeting between the two nations and is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the group’s standings.
