Team Ghana has suffered a painful blow at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after a successful appeal by Canada altered the final standings in the men’s 4x100m relay, denying the Ghanaian quartet a place on the podium.
Ghana had initially been elevated to the bronze medal position following the provisional disqualification of Canada after the race. The revised results temporarily moved Nigeria into second place and handed Ghana what appeared to be a historic bronze medal finish.
However, Canadian officials lodged an appeal, which was later upheld by competition authorities.
The decision saw Canada reinstated to second place, with Nigeria dropping to third and Ghana ultimately relegated to fourth position.
The ruling brought disappointment to the Ghanaian camp, as athletes and supporters who had celebrated a potential medal were left heartbroken by the late change in the results.
Despite narrowly missing out on a podium finish, Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team produced a commendable performance on one of the biggest stages of the Commonwealth Games, demonstrating determination and resilience throughout the competition.
The final standings now confirm Canada as silver medallists, Nigeria as bronze medallists, while Ghana finishes just outside the medals in fourth place.
