Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team has written a new chapter in the country’s athletics history by winning the bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, ending a 52-year wait for a podium finish in the event.
The quartet of Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Bopkin, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu clocked an impressive 38.13 seconds in the final.
Ghana initially crossed the finish line in fourth place, but the team was later promoted to bronze after Canada and South Africa were disqualified, securing Team Ghana’s second athletics medal of the Games.
Australia claimed the gold medal, while Nigeria finished with silver.
The achievement marks Ghana’s first Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 4x100m relay since the 1974 edition, ending a long wait for success in one of the Games’ most prestigious track events.
The Glasgow 2026 bronze also adds to Ghana’s rich relay tradition, joining the nation’s previous medal-winning teams from 1962, 1966, and 1974. It is the fourth time Ghana has reached the Commonwealth Games podium in the men’s 4x100m relay.
After qualifying for the final with a strong performance in the heats, the Ghanaian quartet rose to the occasion in the medal race, delivering a season’s best performance of 38.13 seconds.
Their persistence and teamwork were ultimately rewarded with a historic bronze medal, giving Ghana another memorable moment at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
