Ghana Strengthens Preparations for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics After Key Strategic Engagement in Senegal
ACCRA, GHANA – April 16, 2026 – Ghana has taken a significant step toward its participation in the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, following a high-level strategic engagement in Senegal led by the country’s Chef de Mission and Team Leader, Evans Yeboah.
The engagement comes as Africa prepares to host its first-ever Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 13, 2026, in Senegal.

Evans Yeboah’s visit included participation in the official Chef de Mission Seminar organized by the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee (YOGOC). The seminar provided critical operational insights into the planning and execution of the Games, equipping participating nations with the necessary frameworks for effective preparation.
As part of his mission, Yeboah also held strategic discussions with officials at the Ghana High Commission in Senegal. The meeting focused on translating the seminar’s directives into a practical and comprehensive action plan for Ghana’s delegation, covering key areas such as venue logistics, athlete welfare, and consular support.
A major highlight of the engagement was the review of findings from a recent inspection tour of the three host zones—Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. The assessment confirmed Senegal’s readiness to host a world-class event, with impressive infrastructure already in place.

The Athletes’ Village in Diamniadio is set to provide a modern and secure environment for participants, complete with dedicated team spaces, dining halls, medical services, and round-the-clock support systems. In addition, competition and training venues for all 25 sporting disciplines have been upgraded and strategically located near the village to reduce travel time and enhance athlete performance.
Transport arrangements have also been optimized, with an efficient network that includes the TER train and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, ensuring seamless movement between the host zones.
During the meeting, the Ghana High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing full consular and logistical support to the Ghanaian delegation, guaranteeing a smooth experience throughout the Games.
Drawing on his extensive experience—including serving as Chef de Mission at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and other major international competitions—Evans Yeboah presented a detailed overview of the Games programme. The Dakar 2026 agenda is designed to promote holistic athlete development through a combination of elite competition, the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), and cultural exchange activities.
“The Youth Olympic Games are intentionally structured to develop the whole person,” Yeboah noted. “Our goal is to ensure that Ghana’s young athletes return not only as competitors but as ambassadors of change who embody the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.”
The 12-day global sporting event is expected to bring together over 3,000 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees, competing in 25 sports, including innovative mixed-gender and mixed-NOC events aimed at fostering unity and collaboration.
The Office of the Chef de Mission will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana High Commission, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), national sports federations, corporate partners, and civil society organizations to ensure Ghana’s successful participation.
