Cape Coast played host to the future of Ghana rugby as the Central Regional Rugby Association (CRRA), in collaboration with the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), successfully organised the 2026 U18, U16 and U14 Rugby Championship at the Robert Mensah Stadium.
The youth championship brought together some of the country’s most promising young rugby players, who thrilled spectators with impressive displays of skill, determination and teamwork while highlighting the steady growth of grassroots rugby in Ghana.
The event received a major boost with the presence of the Municipal Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, who experienced the sport firsthand and praised the discipline, commitment and sportsmanship exhibited by the young athletes throughout the competition.
In a gesture of support for youth sports development, Hon. Arthur donated GH¢1,000 towards the successful organisation of the tournament, reaffirming his commitment to nurturing young sporting talents in the municipality.
On the field, Africa Warriors emerged as champions of the U18 category after overcoming Griffons Empire Sporting Club in a fiercely contested final. Griffons Empire, however, bounced back to claim the U14 championship following an outstanding campaign that showcased the club’s growing youth development programme.
The organisers also applauded every participating team, coach, referee, volunteer and supporter whose dedication contributed to the success of the championship.
The tournament further underlined the Ghana Rugby Football Union’s commitment to strengthening the sport from the grassroots by creating regular competitive opportunities for young players to develop their talents and prepare for higher levels of competition.
The success of the championship was also made possible through the support of several partners and sponsors, including Union Square Pharmacy, TW Radio, Coastal TV, Flossie Enterprise and Captainblack Acupuncture Therapy, whose contributions continue to drive youth rugby development across the country.
With another successful youth championship concluded, Ghana Rugby continues to demonstrate that investing in grassroots programmes remains key to building a brighter future for the sport, as the next generation of rugby stars continues to emerge across the nation.
