African Games 2023: Azamati And Aggerh Barnabas Quality for men’s 100m final

Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati and Aggerh Barnabas have both qualified for the final of the men’s 100m at the African Games, being held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

Aggerh Barnabas was the first to secure his spot in the final, placing second in the first semi-final with a time of 10.42.

Not long after, Ghana’s 100m record holder Benjamin Azamati also booked his place in the final, finishing second in the second semi-final with a time of 10.41.

Azamati, who is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, is delighted at returning to the stadium where his athletics journey began. He is determined to win gold, but he may need to improve his performance to do so, given the competitive semi-final times.

Cameroon’s Eseme Emmanuel Alobwede won the second semi-final with a time of 10.23, while Nigerian Ekanem Consider Emmanuel took first place in the first semi-final with a time of 10.37.

Despite holding the national 100m record, Azamati has yet to win an individual medal for Ghana at the African Games.

He hopes to change this by claiming a medal in Tuesday night’s final. His previous best finish was fourth place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
