Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the growth of boxing in Ghana through his foundation and personal support for promising fighters. Over the years, the Asamoah Gyan Foundation has backed several boxers, with John Laryea among its major beneficiaries.
Gyan has repeatedly expressed confidence that Laryea possesses the discipline, talent, and determination needed to become Ghana’s next world boxing champion.
Laryea, popularly known as the “Expensive Boxer,” has built an impressive unbeaten professional career, capturing both the WBO Africa and IBF Africa Featherweight titles.

The Bronx Boxing Gym product has recorded notable victories over fighters including Sebastianus Natanael, Michael Tagoe, Alexander Mejia, and Holy Dorgbetor, establishing himself as one of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects.
The 25-year-old now faces arguably the biggest fight of his career when he takes on Argentina’s Adrian Robledo Maximiliano in a WBA World title eliminator on August 15.

Laryea trains under renowned boxing coach Carl Lokko at the Bronx Boxing Gym alongside fellow fighters, including Daniel Gorsh, Abu Tilapia Kamoko, Emmanuel Quartey, and others.
Gyan was accompanied by his senior brother, Baffour Gyan, and his manager, Samuel Anim Addo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Bronx Boxing Promotions.
A victory would significantly boost his world ranking and put him in line for a shot at the WBA Featherweight World Championship, bringing him one step closer to fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion.
