The National Circles Council of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has welcomed the transfer of the team’s home matches from the Accra Sports Stadium to Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

The Porcupines hosted seven Ghana Premier League matches at the Accra Sports Stadium, winning three, drawing two and losing two.

Additionally, Kotoko held their 2020/2021 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup home matches at Accra against FC Noaudhibou of Mauritania, Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan and Tunisia’s ES Setif.

The Ghana Football Association has now granted Kotoko the request to play its home matches at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium for the second round of the League season.

“The inconvenience was too much. The cost of operations on the club was too much. Thankfully, we have been moved to Obuasi [Len Clay Stadium]. It will help the club”, spokesperson for the National Circles Council, Alexander Osei Owusu said.

The GFA has however informed Kotoko that any subsequent request to relocate within the course of the second round of the season shall not be entertained.

The almost sixty kilometres journey to Obuasi shortens the two-hundred- and forty-eight-kilometres trip that the Kumasi Giants make to Accra for home matches.

Mariano Barreto’s side kick off their second-round league campaign at Techiman Eleven Wonders on Saturday, 3rd April, 2021, before a home clash against Bechem United on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
