GPL: Bechem United split points with Karela United

The Hunters failed to return to winning ways after sharing spoils with Karela United in their match-week 26 clash on Monday afternoon.

 

Bechem United reduced league leaders Asante Kotoko’s lead the seven points after playing out a 1-1 home stalemate with Karela United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem.

 

Bechem United was eyeing all the three maximum points after losing in a bizarre manner to Eleven Wonders last week but they were held at home by Karela United.

The first half of the game ended in a scoreless draw with an end to end action with a few goal glaring opportunities which fell for the 2016 FA Cup champions but they failed to put smile on the faces of their fans at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
Three minutes after the break, midfield dynamo Umar Bashiru benefited from Osei Kuffour’s mistake at the back to open the score for Karela United to mute the vociferous fans of the host.

Bechem United gained possession after conceding the opener to mount pressure on the visitors with hopes of registering the equalizer before the hour-mark but it didn’t happen.
Winger Augustine Okrah brilliantly levelled the score for Bechem United with a spectacular goal in the 79th minute of the game.

 

Bechem United kept knocking for the match-winner in the final ten minutes of the game but goalkeeper Felix Kyei and his backline stood resolute to deny them from scoring to end the match in a one-all draw.
Bechem Bechem now has 45 points as they have reduced the lead by Kotoko — with 52 points — to seven points with eight games to end the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
