Ghana’s Olympic medalist Samuel Takyi pay Visit To Ghana National Gas Company

On Monday, September 6, 2021, Samuel Takyi, Ghana’s only medalist at the just ended Tokyo 2020 Olympics, together with a delegation from the Ghana Boxing Federation(GBF) paid a courtesy call on Dr. Ben K. D. Asante, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Ghana National Gas Company(GNGC).

The team was at GNGC’s head office to present the CEO with the Olympic ‘Bronze’ medal and also to thank management for its continued support to the federation over the years.

In a brief remark, Charles JoJo Ephson, Communications Officer for the Federation said the support from GNGC assisted them to organise the ‘Fist of Fury’, a local competition, which prepared the team adequately for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He emphasized that Takyi would not have attained the heights as the only African to have won a medal in the Boxing Division at the just ended Tokyo 2020 Olympics, adding that “Samuel Takyi is currently ranked 1st in Africa and 3rd in the world when it comes boxing (Feather Weight Division)”.

Mr, George Lamptey, President of the Federation commended GNGC for the swift response when they presented a proposal for sponsorship to the company and further pleaded that support is given to all the divisions within the federation in order to achieve honors for the country.

In response, the CEO of GNGC, Dr, Ben K.D. Asante, thanked the delegation for the recognition given to the company and urged other agencies to come to the aid of all other sports disciplines in the country to build title contenders, since Ghana is already blessed with numerous talents.

The CEO congratulated Samuel Takyi for his achievement and admonished him to remain focused and dedicated to his job as a boxer, and also charged him to be studious in order to excel academically as he has in sports. “Good sportsmen and women are able to effectively combine sports and academics”, he stressed.

Dr. Asante further reiterated the importance of ‘discipline’ in sports and noted that discipline is the hallmark of every great athlete. He stated that the company will accord outstanding sportsmen and women with the needed support to propel them to the highest level of their career.

On his part, Takyi expressed great appreciation to God, Ghana Gas and Ghana Boxing Federation(GBF) for their immense support and pledged to work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion in the near future.

Present at the meeting were the Senior Manager Government Relations, Mrs. Augustina Asare; Senior Technical Manager, Mr. Abraham Mensah; Mr Ampofo Quaye; Mr. Frank Addo; Cop. Suleman Tetteh; Mr. Vincent Nartey and among other dignitaries.
