MATCH REPORT: Legon Cities snatch first point after 1-1 draw with Berekum Chelsea

The first game of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League took off at the Accra Sports Stadium where Legon Cities hosted Berekum Chelsea.

Much was anticipated coming into this game with both sides haven made good signings ahead of the campaign.

The visitors started brightly with the first chance after George Yirenkyi tried his luck with a free kick but was well dealt with by goalkeeper Fatau Dauda on the 5th minute.

Augustine Henneh with a deflected freekick was punched away by Dauda as Chelsea came close again on the 12th minute.

Skipper Stephen Amankona sent Dauda the wrong way from his spot kick to hand Chelsea the lead on the 22th minute after Kofi Owusu was brought down in the box.

Baba Mahama failed to direct his header which went wide.

Legon Cities leveled through Jonah Attuquaye after Baba Mahama was awarded a penalty on the 34th minute.

Prince Atta came on for Stephen Sarfo as Chelsea effected their first change. Cities came close through Michael Ampadu in the dying stages but game went into first half with a goal at piece.

Legon Cities introduced youngster Matthew Anim Cudjoe for Yakubu Mohammed a minute after recess.

Both sides have been impressive since the start of the second but have not threatened the goal areas.

Baba Mahama after 67 minutes of action made way for Nasiru Moro.

A long range effort from Elvis Opoku went wide.

Chelsea effected their second substitution as Jordan Opoku came on for Hamza Gonji.

The last chance went to Legon Cities after Jonah Attuquaye’s low power strike posed no threat to goalkeeper Sammy Agyei as Berekum Chelsea snatched their first away point of the campaign.
