“We Will Not Present the Same Team for AFCON” — Maxwell Konadu Vows Black Satellites Overhaul After WAFU B Exit
Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu has promised to rebuild his team following Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, insisting the squad that failed to progress will not be the same one that represents the country at next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking after Ghana’s goalless draw against Togo in their final Group B match at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Konadu admitted his side fell short of their objective.
“We came here to win, but it didn’t work out. We will reorganise ourselves. Definitely, we will not present the same team for the AFCON next year,” the Black Satellites coach said.
Ghana endured a frustrating campaign, failing to win a single match in the competition. The Black Satellites drew 0-0 with Togo, shared the spoils in a 1-1 encounter with Burkina Faso, and suffered a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.
Despite the setback, Ghana will still compete at the 2027 U-20 AFCON as hosts, giving the technical team an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen the squad ahead of the continental showpiece.
The Black Satellites will now return home to regroup, with attention turning to preparations for the 2027 U-20 AFCON, where expectations will be high for the four-time African champions to mount a strong title challenge on home soil.
