ADDRESS BY THE MINISTER FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS, HON. MUSTAPHA USSIF (MP) DURING THE OUTDOORING OF THE MASCOT, LOGO AND WEBSITE FOR THE 13TH AFRICAN GAMES, ACCRA 2023 ON THURSDAY, 16TH DECEMBER 2021 AT THE ACCRA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE

Ladies and Gentlemen
1. I am delighted to be here today for the outdoor of the Mascot, Logo and website for the 13th African Games, Accra 2023. This event marks another milestone in our resolve to hosting and organising this prestigious games.
2. It may be recalled that in May, 2018, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic, directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports, among other things, to prepare and Bid for the right to host and organise the 13th African Games in 2023.
3. Subsequently, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, constituted a Bid Committee which prepared and submitted a bid to the African Union to declare Ghana’s intension to host and organize the 13th African Games in 2023.
4. Ghana won the right to host and organise the 13th African Games at the 3rd Specialized Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports Meeting on 25th October, 2018 in Algiers, Algeria. This marked the first time in the country’s sporting history to have prepared, submitted and won a bid to host and organise the African Games.
5. I am therefore delighted to be here today, to participate in the historic outdooring of the Mascot, Logo and Website for the13th African Games, Accra 2023. The outdooring of the 13th African Games Triplets, as we choose to call them, marks an important milestone in the history of sports in Ghana, as it heralds the organisation of African Games for the first time in Ghana.
6. The ceremony taking place today is a clear message to the whole world that Ghana is ready, willing and capable of hosting and organizing a benchmarking event which will leave a lasting legacy not only for Ghana but for the continent of Africa.
Mr. President, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
7. The wisdom behind the Mascot is that the eagle symbolizes courage, strength, focus and immortality.
8. Eagles fly higher than any other bird. The height of success that those with eagle mentality can achieve is amazing. Generally, those with eagle mentality are strong, brave, creative, insightful and visionary.
9. We have taken the posture of the eagle and success is our only option.
10. It is against this background that the Ministry in collaboration with the LOC settled on ƆKODIƐ – the Eagle.
Mr. President, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
11. The Logo is the symbol of Africa Unity through Sports. It depicts a sportsperson taking off from Ghana, cruising to victory and carrying the whole of Africa along.
12. The Website of the LOC is the place to visit for information and education on the 13th African Games, Accra 2023.
13. In the happy expectation of a very memorable 13th African Games here in Ghana in 2023, I am happy to welcome the Triplets – The Logo, Mascot and the Website for the 13th African Games into the Family of Ghana Sports.
14. Ghana is ready to host and organise a successful games come 2023 in order to leave our footprints in the sands of time and live a lasting legacy for generations yet unborn.
15. Let me take this opportunity to commend the LOC on this milestone.
