Ghana’s National Rugby Female team, the Eagles Women, secured an impressive 8th position at the 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens tournament held at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium in Legon.
The Ghanaian contingent consisted of 12 players: Anita Halm, Haruna Nimatu, Barikisu A. Mumuni, Jamila Awal, Paulina Y. Mensah, Radha Arthur, Racheal D.N. Tawia, Sheila Tettey, Mary Plange, Grace Aduntira, Patience Musah, and Kadija Adams. They were accompanied by four technical officials: Head Coach Marvin Chirume, Assistant Coach Jeffery Chiwanda, Team Manager Rafatu Inusah, and Team Media Officer Sani Isaah.
The competition featured 12 teams divided into three groups of four teams each. Pool A consisted of South Africa, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, and Burkina Faso. Pool B comprised Kenya, Madagascar, Ghana, and Mauritius, while Pool C included Uganda, Zambia, Senegal, and Côte D’Ivoire.
Ghana’s game summary saw them face stiff competition. With a 31-12 loss to Madagascar, Ghana 29-10 Mauritius, Kenya then edged Ghana 10-5, before Tunisia defeated them 17-7. Kenya dominated Ghana 48-0 in their next match, but the Ghanaian rebounded with a 17-0 victory over Senegal.

South Africa and Kenya qualified for the 2025 Challenger Series, while Uganda secured the third spot after defeating Madagascar 17-5 in the third-place playoff.
Rugby Africa President Herbert Mensah expressed gratitude to Ghana’s President for the state-of-the-art facilities that made hosting the tournament possible. He praised the Ghanaian team for finishing among the top eight, setting a new benchmark for future performances.
