President Mahama to Grace 5th Edition of Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament as Official Launch Takes Place at Achimota Golf Club House
The fifth edition of the First National Bank Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament is set to receive a presidential touch, with His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama expected to grace the prestigious event scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra.
The announcement was made during the official launch of the tournament held today, November 4, 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club House, bringing together distinguished sponsors, corporate partners, club leadership, stakeholders and members of the media ahead of the much-anticipated competition.
This year’s edition will bring together 140 selected amateur golfers, alongside international participants from Nigeria, Burundi and Kenya, in what promises to be an exciting celebration of golf, leadership, business networking and national development.
Held in honour of President John Dramani Mahama, the tournament continues to position golf as more than just a sporting activity, using the game as a platform to foster meaningful relationships, encourage dialogue among influential personalities and promote partnerships that contribute to Ghana’s development.
This year’s theme, “Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf,” underscores the organisers’ commitment to harnessing the power of sport to unite people, strengthen institutional relationships and inspire collective action towards national progress.
Speaking at the launch, Francis Andoh, Chairman of the Organising Committee, welcomed guests and expressed appreciation to the partners and stakeholders whose support continues to sustain the tournament.
“On behalf of the organising committee, I warmly welcome you to the official launch of the 5th Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, 21st November 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club.
“This year’s theme, ‘Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf,’ reflects our belief that sport can bring people together, build lasting relationships and inspire action that benefits our nation,” he said.
Mr Andoh explained that the tournament, organised in honour of President Mahama, would bring together golfers, business leaders, public officials and international guests for a celebration of sportsmanship, fellowship and shared purpose.

He further emphasised that the initiative extends beyond the golf course, highlighting the role of the Head of State Foundation in supporting community outreach programmes and creating opportunities for young people through golf.
“Our commitment extends beyond the course. Through the Head of State Foundation, we seek to support community outreach and create opportunities for young people through golf. We invite our partners and participants to help turn this commitment into meaningful support for those who need it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club, George Yaw Amoah, expressed gratitude to the organising committee for consistently choosing the club as the venue for the prestigious tournament.

He said the club was honoured to be associated with an initiative that brings together key personalities and provides an avenue for strengthening relationships through the game of golf.
Also speaking at the launch, Mike Aggrey, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Achimota Golf Club and General Secretary of the African Golf Confederation, provided insight into the origins and broader vision behind the tournament.
According to him, the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament was initiated in 2017 with the objective of bringing together corporate leaders and captains of Ghanaian industry in a relaxed and convenient atmosphere to discuss the country’s economic, social and political development.
He explained that golf was deliberately selected as the vehicle for the initiative because of its unique ability to bring influential personalities together outside the formalities and bureaucracies associated with conventional office engagements.
“The tournament started way back in 2017, and it was an event initiated basically to bring together leaders, corporate business captains and Ghanaian industry players to discuss how our nation, Ghana, can progress in terms of economic, social and political development,” he explained.
Mr Aggrey noted that the golf course offered an effective platform for leaders to interact, exchange ideas and build relationships that could translate into meaningful contributions to national development.

He further highlighted the tournament’s journey over the years, beginning in 2017 at Achimota before extending to Kumasi, describing its growth as evidence of the enduring vision behind the initiative.

Golf as a platform for national development
As preparations gather momentum towards November 21, the fifth edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament is expected to attract considerable attention, not only for the quality of golfers taking part but also for its broader ambition of using sport to promote national conversations and stronger partnerships.
With 140 selected amateur golfers and international participation from three African countries, the tournament is poised to deliver an exciting display of golfing excellence while reinforcing Ghana’s position as a destination for sporting and corporate engagements.
Beyond the competition and the pursuit of honours on the course, the event seeks to demonstrate how sport can serve as a bridge between business, government and society, bringing people together around a common vision for national growth.
The anticipated presence of President John Dramani Mahama will further add significance to the occasion, as the organisers look forward to another successful edition of a tournament built on leadership, friendship, partnership and the unifying power of golf.
