The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Ampofo Ankrah, joined the people of Asogli State for the opening day of the Yam Festival Football Tournament, adding prestige to an already vibrant celebration.
He was accompanied by Mr. Yaw Gyamfi Kusi Awere, Chief Operating Officer of the NSA, and Mr. Samuel Tsikata, Head of Security.
The event carried a solemn undertone, as it also served to honour the memory of eight public officials and military personnel who recently lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash while serving the nation. A minute of silence was observed, with heartfelt tributes paid to their dedication and sacrifice.
The football tournament, a central highlight of the Yam Festival, featured an impressive showcase of young football talents from across the region.
Speaking to the media after the matches, Mr. Ankrah expressed his admiration for the talent on display.
“The level of talent in this region is remarkable. With the right nurturing and opportunities, many of these youngsters can rise to represent Ghana at the highest levels,” he noted.
Organizers confirmed that the tournament will run throughout the festival, fostering unity, community pride, and sports development in the area.
