The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of John Obiri Yeboah, Founder and President of Jonina Football Academy, to the Management Committee of the Black Princesses, Ghana’s U-20 Women’s National Team.
He joins a strong leadership team that includes Gideon Fosu as the retained Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Sadugu as Vice Chairman, alongside members Paul Anyaba and experienced football administrator Takyi Arhin. Together, the revamped committee will provide strategic direction and support to the Black Princesses as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Tunisia. The first leg will take place on September 20 in Tunis, with the return fixture set for September 28 in Accra.
Boost for the Black Princesses
The GFA expressed confidence that the new-look Management Committee will strengthen the team’s preparation, ensuring both the technical staff and players receive the necessary backing to excel in the qualifiers.
With the combined leadership of Chairman Gideon Fosu and the fresh expertise of John Obiri Yeboah, the Princesses are expected to put up a commanding display in their bid to book a place at yet another global showpiece.
Track Record of Excellence
Obiri Yeboah’s appointment is seen as a reward for his outstanding contributions to women’s football development.
His club, Jonina Ladies, earned promotion to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League in the 2023/24 season after excelling in the Greater Accra qualification playoffs.
The team made headlines by completing the qualifiers with a perfect record — 18 wins in 18 matches — scoring 119 goals and conceding none.
In their debut top-flight campaign, Jonina Ladies finished third in the 2024/25 Women’s Premier League and also reached the FA Cup final, underscoring their rapid rise as a formidable force in Ghanaian women’s football.
Eyes on World Cup Glory
With such an accomplished background, Obiri Yeboah is expected to bring a results-driven mindset and a culture of excellence to the Black Princesses setup.
The committee’s main mission remains clear: to provide the right structures, resources, and support system that will propel Ghana to another FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup appearance.
