The inaugural Bowls sports competition in Ghana and West Africa came to a thrilling close at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex in Accra on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The two-day event, organized by the Ghana Bowls Federation and the Armed Forces Sports Directorate, brought together security bowlers in a spectacular display of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
In his closing remarks, National Sports Authority boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah expressed delight at the massive interest generated by the competition. “This is the first time we’re having Bowls competition in Ghana, and it’s remarkable,” he said.
Ankrah praised the Ghana Bowls Federation, led by President Charles Obeng Amofah, for putting together a successful event.
The competition showcased a mix of experienced players and young talent, with Ankrah expressing optimism about the future of the sport in Ghana. “We’re looking forward to seeing new and international games soon, maybe the Commonwealth games, or even the Olympic Games,” he said.
Ankrah appealed to corporate bodies in Ghana to support the growth of the game, highlighting the potential for Bowls to become a major sport in the country. “Let’s do well and support the growth of the game,” he emphasized.
The successful staging of the competition has set the stage for Bowls to become a regular feature in Ghanaian sports, with possibilities of inclusion in future Security Service Sports Association (SESSA) games.
