Glasgow, Scotland | July 31, 2026 – Team Ghana heads into another decisive day at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with hopes of adding to its medal tally, as sprint star Joseph Paul Amoah competes in the men’s 200m final while boxer Amadu Mohammed steps into the men’s 55kg semi-final.
Following Zinabu Issah’s historic silver medal in the Women’s Para Shot Put T57, Ghana has already opened its medal account and will be seeking further podium success across athletics, boxing, cycling and judo.
Leading Ghana’s delegation, NPC Ghana President and President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has praised the determination, resilience and fighting spirit shown by Team Ghana throughout the Games, urging the athletes to compete with confidence, discipline and national pride.
“Our athletes have demonstrated courage, resilience and excellence throughout these Games. Every Ghanaian is proud of what they have achieved so far, and we remain confident that more memorable performances and medals are within reach. Continue to believe, compete fearlessly and make Ghana proud,” Samson Deen said.
According to today’s competition schedule, Erica Sedzro opens Ghana’s programme in the women’s sprint cycling event at 10:00 GMT, while Frema Adjei competes in the women’s 57kg judo competition at 12:00 GMT. Cyclist Shaaban Mohammed will contest both the men’s 4,000m event at 12:29 GMT and the men’s Keirin at 16:00 GMT.
Attention will then shift to the boxing ring, where Amadu Mohammed fights in the men’s 55kg semi-final at 15:30 GMT, before the day’s climax on the athletics track as Joseph Paul Amoah lines up for the men’s 200m final at 21:25 GMT.
Amoah carries Ghana’s strongest athletics medal hopes after an impressive championship campaign. The national record holder booked his place in the final by winning his opening heat in 20.36 seconds, advancing confidently from a highly competitive field.
The Ghanaian sprint ace enters the final with a personal best, season’s best and national record of 19.99 seconds, making him one of the fastest athletes in the competition. If he produces a performance close to that mark, he will be firmly in contention for a Commonwealth Games medal.
With years of international experience, Amoah has consistently demonstrated his ability to deliver under pressure. Championship finals are often decided by the narrowest of margins, but his speed, composure and race execution provide genuine optimism that Ghana could celebrate another memorable athletics podium finish.
In the boxing arena, Amadu Mohammed stands just one victory away from competing for Commonwealth gold. His impressive performances have earned him a place in the men’s 55kg semi-final, putting him in an excellent position to secure another medal for Team Ghana.
Under Commonwealth Games boxing regulations, both losing semi-finalists receive bronze medals. This means Mohammed has already guaranteed Ghana at least a bronze medal, while victory today would assure him of a minimum silver medal and a place in the championship final with the opportunity to fight for gold.
His quest for success will depend on disciplined tactics, sharp movement, solid defence and accurate scoring throughout the contest. The Ghanaian boxer has shown the confidence, skill and technical quality needed to challenge the very best in the division.
Meanwhile, Frema Adjei will be aiming to make an impact in the women’s 57kg judo competition, while Erica Sedzro and Shaaban Mohammed continue Ghana’s campaign in cycling against some of the Commonwealth’s strongest riders.
With Zinabu Issah’s silver already inspiring the team, Team Ghana enters today’s programme with renewed confidence and realistic hopes of increasing its medal tally. Joseph Paul Amoah has the speed and experience to challenge for the podium, while Amadu Mohammed has an excellent opportunity to extend Ghana’s success in boxing.
As excitement builds back home, Samson Deen has reiterated his belief in Ghana’s athletes, expressing confidence that their determination, commitment and fighting spirit will continue to inspire the nation while enhancing Ghana’s growing reputation on the international sporting stage.
Today’s programme could prove pivotal in Team Ghana’s Glasgow 2026 campaign, with athletics and boxing offering the country’s brightest opportunities to add more medals and further strengthen an already encouraging performance at the Commonwealth Games.
