The Ghana Rugby Football Union has successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), reaffirming its commitment to transparency, growth, and alignment with global rugby standards.
The meeting, held at the Labadi beach hotel in Accra, brought together delegates, stakeholders, and key figures in the sporting fraternity to review the Union’s activities, achievements, and challenges over the past year.
Key Stakeholders in Attendance
The AGM was graced by notable personalities including Richard Akpokavie of the Ghana Olympic Committee. Representatives from Rugby Africa and World Rugby also participated, with Rugby Africa’s General Manager, Mahazohe, joining the session virtually.
Adoption of New Constitution and Code of Conduct
A major highlight of the AGM was the approval of a new constitution and Code of Conduct, aligned with international standards set by Rugby Africa and World Rugby.
According to the Union, the adoption of these frameworks will strengthen governance, promote discipline, and ensure Ghana Rugby continues to operate in line with global best practices.
Officials emphasized that maintaining high standards is key to the sport’s development in the country and its growing reputation on the international stage.
Financial Accountability and Transparency
The Union’s auditor was also present to address delegates on the financial statements, which had been circulated ahead of the meeting. This allowed for open discussions, questions, and clarifications—further reinforcing the Union’s commitment to accountability.
Appreciation to Stakeholders and Sponsors
Ghana Rugby used the occasion to express gratitude to the media, partners, and sponsors for their continued support.
Special appreciation was extended to sponsors including Kivo, Softcare, and Sunda International for their role in supporting the growth of rugby in Ghana.
Looking Ahead
With a renewed governance structure and clear strategic direction, the Ghana Rugby Football Union is determined to set and maintain global standards while expanding the sport across the country.
The successful AGM marks another important step in the Union’s journey toward sustainable development and increased international recognition.
