Ghana Rugby Eagles Storm Back with 84 Unanswered Points to Secure 9th Place at Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens
Ghana’s women’s rugby sevens team, the Ghana Rugby Eagles, finished ninth at the 2026 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens in Nairobi, Kenya, after producing an impressive late resurgence with two emphatic victories on the final day of the competition.
The Ghanaian side bounced back from consecutive defeats in their opening Pool B matches to record commanding wins over Rwanda and Burkina Faso, scoring 84 unanswered points in their final two outings.
Ghana began their campaign against Tunisia, suffering a 21–0 defeat before facing hosts Kenya in their second pool encounter, where they were beaten 27–7.
However, the setbacks did not derail the team’s determination as they returned for the second day with a much-improved performance, demonstrating their attacking quality and defensive discipline.
The Rugby Eagles first secured a convincing 43–0 victory over Rwanda, putting their opponents under sustained pressure and keeping a clean sheet throughout the encounter.
They carried that momentum into their final classification match against Burkina Faso, delivering another dominant display to register a 41–0 victory and officially secure ninth place in the tournament.
The two victories represented a remarkable response from the Ghanaian team, who finished their campaign on a positive note after a challenging start in Nairobi.
Their ability to score 84 points without conceding in their final two matches will provide encouragement for the team as they continue their development and pursuit of greater success on the African rugby stage.
Although Ghana fell short of their ambitions in the competition, the emphatic finish underlined the resilience and fighting spirit of the Ghana Rugby Eagles at the 2026 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens.
