Ghana Badminton Association Holds Inaugural Media Workshop in Accra

The Ghana Badminton Association (GBA) has successfully organised its first-ever media workshop for sports journalists in Accra, marking an important step toward boosting awareness and professional coverage of the sport in Ghana.

The day-long workshop took place at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, January 30, 2026. About eighteen sports journalists participated in the training, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of badminton, the sport’s organisational structure, and the various competitions held locally, continentally, and globally.

The initiative forms part of GBA’s broader efforts to strengthen collaboration with the media while improving the quality, depth, and accuracy of badminton reporting in the country. By equipping journalists with technical knowledge of the sport, the Association hopes to elevate the visibility of badminton and its athletes both in Ghana and beyond.

The workshop was coordinated by the Ghana Badminton Association as part of its ongoing development agenda.

Speaking after the programme, President of the Ghana Badminton Association and Treasurer of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Evans Yeboah, explained the purpose behind the engagement.

“The gathering was to teach the media on how to report on the sport, its position for the global team that we all seek for. Largely, once we inculcates and involved Journalists and the media community been bloggers, been it a photographers, videographers. It offers them the opportunity to have a feel of how the sport is position.

For example, if you’re a photographer, what kind of photos you should take, and what kind of position and angles you should drive your stories from. So that is why it was important that we bring the rules of the sport, teaching them technicalities and also offering them the opportunity to be able to see at first hand, how to report and generate contents which is able to match our athletes and build up the profile of the sport along with the general ecosystem of the sport.

A lot had need achieved today and we are inspire. We’re inspire first, is the enthusiasm and passion, number two is the kind of knowledge that had been bided onto our colleagues journalists and media personnels and we believe that, this will go a long way in how we’re been reported and in that format which is suitable for leadership and also popularising the sport and our athletes profiles.”

The workshop reflects the GBA’s commitment to growing badminton’s presence in the media space and ensuring the sport receives the professional attention needed to thrive within Ghana’s sporting landscape.
