From the Lecture Hall to the Pitch: Evelyn Nsiah Asare’s Remarkable Double Life

There are few figures in Ghanaian public life who move with equal confidence between a university lecture hall, a radio studio, and a football boardroom.

Evelyn Nsiah Asare is one of them. And now, as she prepares to walk across the stage at KNUST Business School to receive her PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, she does so not merely as a graduate, but as a trailblazer whose academic achievements are matched only by the breadth of her impact on Ghana’s sporting landscape.

“It has been a demanding but fulfilling five-year journey,” Asare said in a message announcing the milestone. The understatement is telling. Those five years were not spent in quiet scholarly retreat, they unfolded alongside an already packed career spanning academia, broadcasting, and senior football administration.

Dr. Asare’s PhD is the crowning achievement of an academic portfolio that is, by any measure, extraordinary. She holds not one but two first degrees, one in Procurement Management and another in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, a combination that speaks to her lifelong dual passion for business systems and the world of sport.

She subsequently earned an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, then a Master of Philosophy in Procurement Management, before embarking on the doctoral programme that has now reached its triumphant conclusion. The result is an academic record that traces a clear and deliberate arc, from the fundamentals of procurement to the very frontiers of supply chain scholarship.

Long before the doctoral robes, Dr. Mrs. Nsiah Asare Owusu built a reputation as one of Ghana’s prominent media voices. Her broadcasting career spans some of the country’s most respected outlets Fox FM, Kapital Radio, Kessben FM, Metro FM, and Trust TV. It is a career that has given her a rare gift: the ability to communicate complex ideas to mass audiences. That gift, one suspects, has served her equally well in the seminar room and the boardroom.

Her media work also reflects a sustained commitment to sports journalism. She currently serves as the first female Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, a role that places her at the heart of the national conversation around sports coverage and the professionalisation of sports media.
Perhaps the most striking dimension of Dr. Asare’s career is her deep involvement in Ghanaian football administration and particularly in women’s football, where her contributions have been nothing short of transformational.

She currently serves as CEO of Hasaacas Ladies FC, one of Ghana’s premier women’s football clubs. She has been a Special Assistant to the Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the most storied club in Ghanaian football, and has served as a former board member of the same institution. She has also held management positions with the Ghana Black Queens, the Ghana Black Princesses, and the Ghana Black Maidens, in addition to serving as Team Manager for the Black Queens and the Black Princesses, as Management Member of Regional Under-15 as Chairperson, and as a Management Member of the national Under-17 team.

This is a career that spans club and country, men’s football and women’s football, local competition and national representation. It is a career built not on a single fortunate appointment, but on two decades of deliberate, consistent service to the game.

When Dr. Evelyn Nsiah Asare formally receives her PhD, it will mark the completion of an academic journey but it also signals something larger. It is a statement about what is possible when intellectual ambition and professional commitment are allowed to coexist and reinforce each other.

In a country still working to professionalise its sporting institutions and deepen its pool of female leaders in sport, figures like Dr. Asare matter. She has shown that the path from the classroom to the pitch is not a detour, it is the destination.
