At the end of the 13th African Games Handball in Ghana, Egypt, and Angola won Gold and were crowned champions in the Male and Female category.
As defending Champions and a powerhouse of Handball in Africa, the Angolan Female Team breezed through the group stage and qualified for the quarter-finals rendering their opponents toothless.
Angola was paired in Group A alongside host Ghana, Algeria, and Burkina Faso, and opened their campaign with wins against Burkina Faso (47-13), Ghana (35-13), and Algeria (38-18).
At the semi-final level, Team Angola thrashed Cameroon by a 35-16 scoreline and registered a spot in the finals against RD Congo.
33-15 was the final scoreline in their game against RD Congo which was a complete reflection of a title-defending team.
Egypt, silver medalists from the 2015 edition were drawn in Group A with Nigeria, Togo, and Mali.
Team Egypt began their journey with victories against Mali (49-16), Togo (54-22), Nigeria (27-24) and topped their group with 6 points.
They took on Benin in the semifinals and humbled them by 39-27 goals.
Their final game was against RD Congo and it was the clash of the titans with a medal and title as stake, Egypt had a narrow victory over RD Congo with a scoreline of 33-32.
The Handball event was held at the Borteyman Sports Complex Dome.
