Black Maidens Bow Out of U-17 World Cup After Narrow Defeat to Japan

Ghana’s Black Maidens have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Japan in the quarter-finals.

The Ghanaian side saw their impressive campaign come to an end after a hard-fought encounter against the Japanese, who secured victory to book their place in the semi-finals.

The defeat marks the end of Ghana’s journey in the tournament, despite the team showing determination and resilience throughout the competition.

The Black Maidens had given Ghanaian football fans plenty of reasons to be proud, particularly with their performances against some of the tournament’s top sides.

Their campaign included a 3-3 draw against Brazil, a convincing 2-0 victory over Canada and a dramatic penalty shootout triumph over Argentina in the Round of 16 after a 1-1 draw.

However, Japan proved to be a difficult opponent, ending Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the semi-finals.

Although the quarter-final exit will be disappointing for the young Ghanaian players, their performances in Morocco provide encouragement for the future of women’s football in the country.

The Black Maidens will now turn their attention to future assignments as they seek to build on the experience gained at the global tournament.

Ghana’s journey may have ended in Morocco, but the experience and fighting spirit displayed by the young players offer hope for the future.
