Barcelona Move Early to Extend Ferran Torres Contract Beyond 2027
Sporting director Deco has decided to act proactively, aiming to prevent the forward from entering the final two years of his current deal after a 21-goal season
Barcelona have officially opened proceedings to extend Ferran Torres’ contract beyond 2027, with sporting director Deco moving proactively to secure the forward’s future at the Nou Camp, according to reports in Mundo Deportivo.
While the club initially intended to wait until autumn before approaching the Foios-born forward, whose current contract expires in 2027, Deco has decided to act earlier. Despite a sense of security regarding his current wages and Ferran’s long-standing desire to remain in Catalonia, the club is keen to avoid the player entering the final two years of his agreement.
The Barcelona hierarchy is now finalising an opening proposal for the Valencian and his representatives to consider. It remains to be seen whether negotiations will accelerate during the World Cup or reach a conclusion shortly after. The club is eager to reward his consistency and ensure he feels like a fundamental pillar of the first-team project.
The departure of Robert Lewandowski has only heightened Ferran’s importance. While Barcelona are monitoring Julian Alvarez, they are currently unable to match the financial package being touted by Atletico Madrid, suggesting that Ferran could emerge as the primary attacking outlet alongside Anthony Gordon.
According to a report by Accra Street Journal, regardless of whether a marquee number nine arrives to succeed Lewandowski, the club views Ferran as an indispensable asset in their offensive rotation. His output justifies the faith: he netted 21 goals last term, finishing as the club’s joint second-highest scorer alongside Raphinha and just behind Lamine Yamal. He also proved his reliability by scoring in 16 different matches, the second-best record in the squad.
Ferran silenced his doubters some time ago to cement his status as a pivotal figure for Barcelona. The club now appears determined to ensure that status is reflected in a new long-term agreement, rewarding a player who has become indispensable to Hansi Flick’s attacking plans.
