Rugby Rising Play Ghana Lights Up the Savannah Region with Youth Empowerment Initiative

Under the bright Savannah sun on 25th March 2026, a quiet transformation began to unfold at St. Peter’s. What started as a simple gathering soon grew into a powerful moment of hope, learning, and inspiration — the launch of the Rugby Rising Play Ghana Program in the Savannah Region.

Led with passion and purpose by Nurudeen Miran and the Savannah Region Rugby Association, the event brought together nearly 200 eager students from St. Peter’s, Al Mustabshira, Saedia, and Iddrisiya JHS. Their energy filled the air, a mix of curiosity and excitement, as many encountered the game of rugby not just as a sport, but as a tool for life.

The field became more than just a playing ground. It turned into a classroom without walls — one where lessons went far beyond rules and drills. Rugby, with its demands for strength and strategy, became a symbol of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Each pass, each run, and each cheer echoed the deeper message: that greatness is built through unity and resilience.

But the day’s impact stretched beyond sport.

In a series of heartfelt and educational sessions, Madam Sofo Sadia, Madam Braimah Soale Zelia, and Mr. Bright stood before the students, not just as speakers, but as mentors. They spoke openly about hygiene, menstrual health, teenage pregnancy, and the importance of physical education — topics often left unspoken, yet deeply important. Their words resonated, planting seeds of awareness and confidence, especially among the young girls.

In a touching gesture of care and support, sanitary pads and essential items were distributed. For many of the girls, it was more than a donation — it was dignity, encouragement, and a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported.

Behind the scenes, the dedication of individuals like Yakubu Abdulai, Imurana, Gafar, and Ashraf ensured that everything ran smoothly. Their quiet efforts helped shape an experience that felt seamless and meaningful for every participant.

The program, supported by the Ghana Rugby Football Union, stood as a shining example of what happens when sport meets purpose. It wasn’t just about introducing rugby — it was about building stronger, healthier, and more confident young people.

As the day came to a close, the field slowly emptied, but the impact remained. In the hearts of those 200 students, something had changed. They left not only with new skills and knowledge, but with a renewed sense of possibility.

In the Savannah Region, rugby had done more than rise — it had ignited a movement.
