On 27 November 2025, the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), in partnership with the Greater Accra Rugby Association, successfully hosted Rugby Rising Play at the Weija Asaa Park.
The event introduced 350 girls from 11 schools to rugby, mentorship, and essential health education.
Highlights
Rugby Skills Sessions:
GRFU development coaches led exciting, non-contact rugby activities, including passing drills, movement exercises, teamwork sessions and safe-play demonstrations.

Health & Empowerment Education:
Patricia Atsufi Akakpo from the Weija and Gbawie Clinics delivered an engaging talk on teenage pregnancy, menstrual hygiene, self-care, and confidence-building. The girls participated actively and asked insightful questions.
Support for Girls’ Wellbeing:
Each participant received sanitary pads from Sunda International Ghana and KIVO gari products to support menstrual health and encourage consistent participation in school and sports.

Plans are underway to expand Rugby Rising Play to more circuits across Greater Accra.
