Leading sports betting company, Betway has organised a training workshop for athletes and administrators of the Ghana Cricket Association and the Ghana Armwrestling Association.

The seminar was addressed by Sport and Exercise Physician Scientist, Dr Aniemena-George Chidi, former national volleyball team captain, Mr Eric Antwi Ofori and Sports Business Professional, Mr Neil Armstrong Mortagbe.

In his presentation, Dr Chidi urged African sports teams to take rehydration seriously if they want their athletes to produce peak performances.

According to Dr Chidi, research had shown that adequate rehydration was a critical component, especially for providing athletes in the tropical sub-region with the electrolytes necessary for holistic performance in sport.

Speaking on the topic “Sports Medicine and Fitness”, Dr Chidi said there were many local foods from Ghanaian sources that could be used to improve the nutrition of sportsmen and sportswomen.

Over the past year, similar seminars have been organised with the aim of uplifting the various sports federations in the country through capacity building, training, promotions and the provision of equipment.

Beneficiaries of the Betway Up seminar include Ghana Premier League clubs, Division One League clubs, National Women’s League clubs, volleyball teams and table tennis teams.

In an interview with GraphicOnline, the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr Charles Osei Asibey expressed gratitude to Betway for their commitment to the development of least-financed sports in the country.
