Covid-19: Ghanaian athlete shares her battle with the Covid-19

National record holder in the women’s long jump, Deborah Acquah has revealed how the novel Covid-19 pandemic has affected her.

The 23 year-old in an Interview with Ghsportsnews.com said she was having a great season until Covid-19 reared its ugly head.

It affected me and every sport in the world. From the postponment of sporting events as large as the Olympic Games, to cancellation of Youth and college sports”, she said.

She also revealed that, her coach Sean Brady had been helping her on some technical issues and she is making progress.

“I always speak with the GAA Jumps coach, coach Andrew Owusu, and they all knew about progress during this Covid-19 period.

I planned on working with them this summer and to prepare me for the Africa championship and the Olympic Games as well. If I happen to qualify, it will be a massive to me and I will be much disappointed if I didn’t compete in the Olympic Games”, she opined.

She is the current holder of Ghana’s indoors long and triple jump record of 6.37m. She was also a silver medalist at the 2019 Africa games at Rabat Morocco.
