NPC President Explains Why Yusif Amadu Was Chosen for The Tokyo Games ahead of Bostyo Nkegbe

The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC), President Mr. Samson Deen has explained why the National Paralympic Committee chosen Para High jumper Yusif Amadu ahead of Bostyo Nkegbe ahead of the  Tokyo Olympic Games.

Both athletes have qualified to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan through a slot given by the IPC.

Addressing the media at a press conference on Wednesday, July 21 at the conference room of NPC office in Accra, Samson Deen said, “Yusif Amadu competed for Ghana Para athletics under the NPC. IPC gave that slot to the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana to select two of male athletes.

Meaning they didn’t tell us to choose either Botsyo Nkegbe or to choose from Yusif Amadu. Fairly, we decided to look at participation to competitions to those who helped to secure the slot for Ghana”.

So it came to the NPC board for now to decide,and after going through series of discussions and trying to look at what we do of benefit immediately and in the future for Ghana. The NPC through balloting voted for Yusif Amadu for the Tokyo 2020.

The picture is clear, no body is against Botsyo Nkegbe, it was an opportunity for both of them and the NPC who led by myself chose Yusif Amadu for Tokyo 2020. That’s how the qualification seneiro is”

Amadu has jumped over the qualifying mark of 1.45m, however, and now he is jumping over 1.75m, however, the world best are jumping 1.90m while Bostyo Nkegbe has clocked a tie of 14.22 to secure computerized qualification in the 100m wheelchair race.

The 16th Summer Paralympic Games is scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan between Tuesday, August 24 to Sunday, September 5, 2021.
