At the Ghana Tennis Club in Adabraka, the young talents under the wing of Amoako Boafo are writing a new chapter for Ghanaian tennis at the ongoing AJC 12U Tournament.
From the very first ball struck, the trio of Jeff Douwona, Maxwell Antwi, and Blessing Serwornu have carried both the hopes of their mentor and the pride of their nation.
Their campaign began with a spirited clash against Togo. Jeff battled valiantly against the top seed but narrowly lost in a three-set thriller 3-6, 6-3, 4-6. Maxwell steadied the team with a commanding 7-5, 6-1 win over the second seed before the pair joined forces for a pulsating doubles decider, clinching victory 4-6, 6-2, 13-11 in a dramatic finish. That triumph set the tone for what was to come.
Against Sierra Leone, Ghana proved ruthless. Maxwell outclassed the No.1 seed 7-6, 6-2, while Blessing showed his dominance with a 6-0, 6-2 win. The doubles was a masterclass, with Jeff and Maxwell powering through 6-1, 6-1. The momentum surged into their showdown with Nigeria, where Jeff dismantled the No.1 seed 6-0, 6-3 and Maxwell overwhelmed his opponent 6-0, 6-1. The doubles, again flawless, saw Blessing and Jeff sweep 6-0, 6-1.
Now, with Benin standing between them and glory in the finals, Team Boafo’s protégés have already proven themselves as a force of the future. Tomorrow, all eyes in Accra will be on these rising stars, as they aim to deliver another historic victory for Ghana.
