Taekwondo to Hit Schools: Ghana’s Federation sets Development Agenda at 2025 General Assembly and Stakeholders Forum in Kumasi
The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) on Saturday, October 25, 2025, held its General Assembly and Stakeholders Forum at the Conference Room of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
With delegates from all 10 regions present, the Federation took several major decisions aimed at strengthening the development, promotion, and integration of Taekwondo across the country.
In his address to the Assembly, GTF President, Frederick Lartey Otu, highlighted some achievements over the past year, notably the medals secured at the 2023 African Games in Accra, despite numerous challenges.
Key matters discussed at the General Assembly included the acceptance of the Financial Report, strategies for regional development, and plans for capacity building among coaches and officials.
The Stakeholders Forum, themed “Promoting Taekwondo as a Preparatory Activity for School Children and a Competitive Sport,” focused on the collective roles of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Education Service (GES), and the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS).
Discussions centered on integrating Taekwondo into the school curriculum, developing after-school programs, and addressing challenges in introducing the sport to educational institutions.
To ensure a sustainable pipeline for competitive athletes, stakeholders also deliberated on marketing, publicity, competitions, and event strategies.
At the end of the session, regional delegates and stakeholders proposed an action plan that provides a clear roadmap for the sport’s grassroots development.
A committee will be formed to design a framework and collaborate with GNACOPS to begin introducing Taekwondo training in private schools.
Future initiatives will include a Taekwondo competition exclusively for private schools, as well as a review of the GTF Constitution to align with current World Taekwondo Regulations—the last amendment having been made in 2016 at the Takoradi General Assembly.
The GOC was represented by its 3rd Vice President, Ernest Danso, while Obenfo Enoch Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, Executive Director of GNACOPS, attended on behalf of his Council.
The GTF announced that a series of national and international programs have been planned for the coming year, signaling a renewed commitment to growing Taekwondo at all levels.
