Sports Ministry has released a statement shedding light on Ghana’s unexpected early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry have come under intense fire from football-loving Ghanaians after the senior national team exited AFCON early for the second time.

Ghana left the 33rd edition in Cameroon with one point and the 34th edition in Ivory Coast with 2 points.

The Sports Ministry, in an official statement on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, stated that it “profoundly shares the disappointment and devastation echoing through the hearts of millions of Ghanaians and followers of Ghana football both home and abroad,”

The Sports Ministry also added that the performances on the pitch don’t match the investments made into the team to deliver.

“Regrettably, the recent and continued poor performance of the Black Stars highlights fundamental structural and systemic deficiencies in our footbal ecosystem and journey. This is such that, despite our unwavering support and considerable investment, leaving no stone unturned, the team has not delivered, and results do not commensurate with efforts and resources invested”
