Saddick Adams Writes: Why Are The Black Queens Still Playing In Old Kits While The Black Stars Have A New Design?

A LETTER TO GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (GFA)

Dear Ghana FA,

It’s been 6 months since Puma unveiled new kits for the National Teams. In the original agreement, Puma was to kit all of Ghana’s National Teams. Why are the Black Queens still playing in old kits while Black Stars have a new design?

Italy, for instance, and in fact other national teams under same Puma deal, unveil both their Men’s & Women’s Teams on the same day.

Has the deal been amended to exclude the Black Queens? Then find them new kit sponsors. If not, can we get explanations for this gross anomaly?

While they played in old kits, the student fans who came to cheer them old wore new replicas thanks to the Black Stars.

The Ghana Black Queens are not in a minority group.

It is a fact that they’re the first senior national team to qualify for the World Cup and for nearly two decades, used to be a force to be reckoned with. We are pacesetters in the women’s game on the continent. We did not retrogress because of lack of talent. We fell because of some of these persistent mistreatment and subtle disrespect.

In other jurisdictions, Women Teams are fighting for equal pay with men. In others, the women’s game is breaking barriers and setting record attendances.

That was where we belonged. We should not let these ladies believe we are just doing them a favour by playing for Ghana. They’re in same service like the Black Stars.

Wearing new kits may not be a grand motivation and the Black Queens may not complain.

But it is similar to having two kids and overtly showering one with gifts and new dresses while the other is made believe they still look good in the old ones.

They took a road trip to Benin, and made to take pictures along the way as thought it was fun.

The Black Stars will not take that trip to Kumasi for same friendly.

This is not the first time. The Women’s game has been here for far too long to be continuously be mistreated. They deserve more respect!!!
