Record-Breaker Sandra Boakye ‘Gawucho’ Makes History in Ashanti Region Inter Schools Boys Soccer, Following Godmother’s Path to Glory

51 years record breaks. Sandra Boakye also known as Serwaa ‘Gawucho’ emulates her Godmother, Madam Habiba Attah Forson’s record as the only two female coaches to win the Ashanti Region Inter Schools Boys Soccer.


Sandra Boakye aka Serwaa ‘Gawucho’ has made a good impact for herself in the history of the Ashanti Region Inter Schools Boys Soccer Competition and at Simms Commercial Senior High School as well.

SIMMS Commercial Senior High School founded in 1977 by former Asante Kotoko Football Club President, Mr. Phil Simms Kofi Mensah to provide education to the people of Kwabre has never seen Inter Schools Soccer Competition until 2023 under the stewardship of Sandra Boakye.
They failed to win it in 2011 when they lost the Finals to Adu Gyamfi Senior High School by 2-0.

The CAF License B Coach became the second female coach to win the competition and the first time in 51 years.

Fabulous Ladies Football Club Owner and GFA Executive member, Madam Habiba Attah Forson who represented Ghana in the first All-African Games competition held in Congo Brazzaville in 1965, and a former student and athlete of T. I Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Kumasi, and a footballer as well took her owned established High School, KISCO Commercial to win the Senior High School competition twice in 1971 and 1972. A tournament involved form schools like RADISCO, ADABIE Commercials, Opoku Ware School, Asanteman SHS, OKESS, T.I Ahmadiyya, Konongo Odumasi, Osei Tutu SHS, EFFISCO Commercial to win the competition twice (1971 & 1972) as the head coach.
Former Asante Kotoko player, George Kennedy, and former Kotoko striker, Baba Otu played major roles in those competitions for KISCO Commercial.
Since then, no Woman has achieved that until the former Fabulous Ladies player, Sandra Boakye A.K.A Gawucho wins it for SIMMS Commercial Senior High School.

Sandra Boakye completed Agona SDA Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
She also completed Kumasi Technical University before attending the University of Education where he studied Physical Education.

She had her internship at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School ‘OKESS’ a school she defeated to win the title.

She assisted former Hearts of Oak assistant coach, Hamza Obeng to reach the quarter-final of the inter-school competition in 2018 with OKESS.

In January 2020, She took OKESS as the head coach to the Semi-finals where she lost 1-0 to the eventual winners, Kumasi High School, and went ahead to lose 3rd place to KSTS on penalties after 0-0 in regulation time.

Sandra Boakye is a former player of Fabulous Ladies Football Club.
She helped the club to win the 2010 and 2011 Women’s League Championships defeating Hasaacas Ladies in both editions before the introduction of the National Zonal League in 2012-13.
She also helped Fabulous Ladies to win the Women’s Northern Zone League twice (2012-13, 2013-14) but lost the two Championship playoffs to Hasaacas Ladies.

She scored Fabulous Lady’s consolation goal at Cape Coast Sports Stadium in their 2-1 loss against Hasaacas Ladies in the maiden Women’s FA Cup finals in 2016.

She represented Ghana U-17 Lady’s national team, the Black Maidens in Azerbaijan in 2012. A team that won bronze. Ghana’s only medal at the U-17 ladies’ World Cup.

She also represented Ghana U-20 women’s national team (Black Princesses) at the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Papua New Guinea in 2016.

Gawucho coached Kotoku Rush, a second-division in Eastern Region, and qualified them for the Middle League in 2022. A middle league that Koforidua Sempe FI qualified for the National division. And also coached Kotoku Rush Ladies.

She assisted coach Nurudeen Ahmed and Nassamu Yakubu at Kotoku Royals in Division One. A season (2021-22) that saw the qualification of Kotoku Royals to the Ghana Premier League.

She came to help her mother’s club, Fabulous Ladies during the 2022-23 Women’s League Season.

Sandra Boakye owned a football academy called San-Di Football Academy. The team is based at Tafo-Pankrono. They honor their games at Tapass Park.

Her club won the Tafo District Colts Championship in January 2023.

Sandra Boakye holds a CAF License B coaching certificate.

The Ashanti Regional inter-school soccer competition, powered by Elite Schools League, served as a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.
