Qatar 2022: Goldfields gives Black Stars World Cup support

Goldfields Company have supported the Black Stars of Ghana with an amount of $300,000 ahead of their World Cup campaign in Qatar later this month.

The was announced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Accra on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

Hon Mustapha Ussif said, “Goldfields’ contribution to sports development is well documented, and as we all know, this is not their first association with the Black Stars. They have on a number of occasions, supported the Black Stars on its journey to becoming one of the best national teams in the world”.

“As the Black Stars intensify preparations towards the FIFA World Cup, Qatar 2022, the timing of this latest partnership with Gold Fields could not have been better.

This support is timely and will significantly boost the Black Stars preparations towards achieving our target of going all the way in Qatar” he added.

The Black Stars of Ghana will head into the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the lowest-ranked country after dropping to 61st place last month.

Ghana, four-time African champions dropped from 60th place after a 3-0 loss to the highest-ranked team Brazil and a 1-0 win against minnows Nicaragua.

Ghana was last ranked 61st in February after a horror showing at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, where Ghana finished bottom of their group with just one point from their three games. At the time, it was the country’s lowest ranking in 18 years.

The Black Stars are scheduled to play Portugal on November 24, South Korea (on November 28) and Uruguay (December 2) in Group H of the World Cup.
