Defending champions Heart of Oak trek to Kumasi to take on inform Bechem United in the 2021-2022 MTN FA Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Hearts of Oak make it to the finals of this year competition after beating Dreams FC by 3-2 while the Bechem United beat Aduana Stars to 2-0 to make it to the finals.

Ahead of the biggest game between the 11 times champions of the competition and the one-time champions, the MTN FA Cup committee announcement the benefits of the winner of this year’s MTN FA Cup.

Below are the benefits of the winner and the runner- up;

The winner of the tournament will take home with a beautiful troph with medals, CAF Confederation Cup tickets, Super cup ticket, Ghc 80,000 as prize money, Ghc 100,000 support for CAF Confederation Cup, Ghc 2, 000 MTN Top up cards and 25% share of gate income while the runner up also take home medals, Ghc 30,000 as prize money, Ghc 1, 000 MTN Top up cards and 25% share of gate income.

Match Officials
Latif Adaari will be the center-referee. He will be assisted by Stephen Balanguena (Assistant One), Kofi Nyarko Bakai (Assistant Two), Jones Akubiem (Fourth Referee).

HISTORY ABOUT THE GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (FA) CUP.

The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knock-out Football Competition in men’s domestic Ghana Football. It was First played during the 1958 season. It is organized by and named after The Football Association (The GFA). Since 2011, it has been known as The MTN FA Cup after its headline sponsor.

A concurrent women’s tournament is also held the Women’s FA Cup. The Women’s FA Cup Competition started in 2016 and was named Sanford Women’s FA Cup after its headline sponsor.

The Ghana FA Cup which is the oldest GFA official competition after Independence in 1957 (Gold Coast League in 1956) started in 1958 with eight original first division Clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kumasi Cornerstone, Sekondi Eleven Wise, Sekondi Hasaacas, Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs, and Cape Coast Venomous Vipers.

THE POLITICAL LEADERS WHO INITIATED THE COMPETITION WERE KOJO BOTSIO AND MR KOBINA HAGAN FROM THE FA.

It was through the initiative of great English Football enthusiast Ken Harrison, the Ghana Manager of R. E. Harding and Co that Aspro Nicholas Ltd ( a Pharmaceutical Company) of England donated the ASPRO Cup for the beginning of the FA Cup Competition.

Ken Harrison was closely associated with arrangements for the visit to Ghana by English soccer maestro Stanley Matthews in 1957.

• He was a guest Football Commentator for Radio Ghana. He loved Colts Football to the hilt.

• The maiden FA Cup Competition was keenly contested. The first round which was all local derbies saw Hearts winning from Accra, Kotoko from Kumasi, Hasaacas from Sekondi, and Dwarfs from Cape Coast.

The competition is open to any eligible club down to Ghana Division Two Clubs of the Ghana Football League System (Ghana Premier League, Division One League & Division Two League).

• Winners receive the FA Cup trophy and also qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup Competition and a place in the FA Super Cup.

• Hearts of Oak Sporting Club are the most successful club with ten (11) titles.
