Kwadwo Obeng Junior secured Hearts of Oak an important away win over Medeama SC to keep their hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League title alive.

Accra Hearts of Oak continued their impressive performance in the Premier League after inflicting a painful 1-0 home defeat on Medeama SC at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.

Hearts of Oak have ended their Ghana Premier League winless jinx against Medeama SC in Tarkwa since 2016 after a narrow win on Saturday afternoon.

The early minutes of the game looked balanced as both sides possessed the ball in the middle but they failed to make the few chances created count before the half-hour mark.

Hearts of Oak gained possession to stage an intense pressure on the home side to concede before the break through a cool finish from Kwadwo Obeng Junior.

On the 33rd minute, Obeng Junior brilliantly capitalize on a defensive blunder of the Medeama SC back line to give Hearts of Oak a 1-0 lead for the break.

Back from the break, Coach Umar Rabiu made a tactical substitution with the introduction of Jonathan Sowah, Joshua Agyemang and Kwasi Donsu with the hopes of getting the leveller.

Striker Nana Bayin Qyanson came close to snatch the equalizer for Medeama on the 56th minute but his effort was denied by the post.

Former Ghana U20 star Isaac Gyamfi nearly got his new on the score sheet for Medeama SC but his drive was brilliantly saved by Richmond Ayi.

Hearts of Oak introduced Faisal Adams, Enoch Asubonteng and Gideon Asante Yeboah to stabilize the game while leading the hosts and also deal with every inroads from the upfront of Medeama SC.

Ayi made another magnificent save to rescue the Phobians from conceding at the Akoon Park after fisting out an audacious strike from Kwesi Donsu in the dying embers of the game.

Medeama SC kept pushing for the equalizer but their efforts went futile as the fixture ended in a 1-0 win for Hearts of Oak.
