The Ministry of the Interior and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are set to collaborate on the revival of the Security Services Sports Games (SESSA Games).
GFA President Kurt Okraku made the call when he met the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss plans to revive the competition among Ghana’s security agencies.
Mr Okraku said the security services had considerable sporting talent across several disciplines which could be developed through the games.
He believes the revival of the SESSA Games would strengthen unity and cohesion among the security agencies while creating an important talent pool for Ghana football and other sports.
Responding to the proposal, Mr Muntaka said a committee had already been established to develop modalities for bringing the games back.
He disclosed that the SESSA Games are scheduled to return in November 2026.
“Sports goes beyond security duties. When security agencies come together to compete, it builds camaraderie, discipline and teamwork,” the minister said.
He added that the competition could also help identify talented footballers capable of progressing to Ghana’s national teams.
Mr Muntaka said this year’s competition would be held at the national level, but plans were in place to introduce district and regional competitions in subsequent editions.
The proposed structure, he explained, would ensure wider participation and provide opportunities to identify sporting talent from across the country.
The Interior Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the initiative and ensuring the SESSA Games regain their former status.
The collaboration between the Interior Ministry and the GFA is expected to provide further impetus to efforts to revive the competition and strengthen sports development within Ghana’s security services.
