Great Olympics File Fresh Protest Against Hearts of Oak

Ghana Premier League outfit Accra Great Olympics have filed a counter protest against city rivals Hearts of Oak over the registration of midfield linchpin Emmanuel Nettey.

Great Olympics, two-time winners of the Ghanaian top-flight have carved a niche for themselves as an entity with a special taste for litigation, responded to an earlier protest by their illustrious neighbours Hearts of Oak on the back of a thrilling Ga Mantse Derby which was staged last Sunday.

It would be recalled that Hearts accused Olympics winger Joshua Kwame Rhule of not having the required certification for a change in name, therefore, making him unqualified to feature for the Dade Boys in their match day 28 game.

The Phobians are seeking to be declared winners after sharing the spoils in the capital as stated in the statutes of the Ghana Premier League regulations, where a team commits an offence punishable by forfeiture of a match where that team fields an unqualified player.

But in a quick rebuttal Olympics have also filed a protest against Hearts over what they claim is an illicit means by which Emmanuel Nettey, formerly of Inter Allies, was registered by the Phobians and have thus implored the appropriate quarters of the Ghana Football Association to peruse the registration process of the Nettey.

The Nungua-born midfielder joined the Phobians in January 2020 on a free transfer fee and has gone on to play an integral role in coach Samuel Boadu’s team, as they seek to end their eleven-year title-less run this season.

It remains to be seen whether Olympics’ protest would stand the test of time or would just be a case of much I do about nothing.

The football community are certainly poised to witness a photo finish to the season coupled with some legal undertones which could affect the dynamics of the league.
