At just 16 years old, Yakubu Stephen is already carving out a reputation as one of the most reliable young defensive midfielders in the Northern Region, blending discipline, composure and leadership well beyond his years.
A Tournament-Winning Presence
Yakubu was a key figure in Kpandai Senior High School’s triumphant run at the 2025 Northern Regional Inter-School Competition, held in Tamale.
His influence extended beyond the school level, as he also featured prominently for the Northern Regional team that went on to win the 2025 Inter-Regional Schools & Colleges Sports Festival.
Across both tournaments, Yakubu’s consistency stood out. He played all six matches, from the group stages through to the final, anchoring the midfield with authority.

His performances earned him recognition as the best defender of the tournament – an accolade that underlined his tactical awareness, timing, and ability to read the game.
From Community Football to Regional Glory
Yakubu’s football journey began with Kpandai Samba Boys, where he took his first steps in organised football.
He later joined Walliers FC, continuing his steady rise through the grassroots ranks.
His success at the community level mirrors his school achievements. Yakubu was part of the Samba Boys side that won the maiden edition of the Bowmarie Community Football Gala Competition as well as the SRC Festival Cup.
He later lifted the Bowmarie Community Football Gala trophy again—this time with Walliers FC – confirming his knack for being at the heart of winning teams.
Still in his early teens, Yakubu Stephen’s growing list of honours and his calm command of the defensive midfield position point to a future full of promise.
If his current trajectory is anything to go by, Kpandai may well be nurturing its next standout football talent.
