The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Council has reconfirmed Ghana’s Mawuko Afadzinu as Chair of its Sustainability Committee, further cementing his growing influence in global table tennis governance and sustainable development.
The development was communicated to stakeholders by Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah, Head of Communications at the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), marking yet another milestone for Ghanaian representation on the international stage.
Mr. Afadzinu remains the only African serving as Chair of an ITTF Permanent Committee, a distinction that underscores his rising stature among the sport’s global decision-makers. His leadership continues to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability policies within the federation.
His reconfirmation comes at a time when the ITTF is deepening its commitment to environmental sustainability, governance reforms, and long-term development goals through initiatives such as the Sustainability Strategy and the Planet Game Plan 2030. These efforts are focused on reducing carbon emissions, promoting environmental responsibility, and strengthening sustainable practices across member associations worldwide.
Mr. Afadzinu’s continued stewardship of the Sustainability Committee reflects the confidence placed in his vision and leadership. Over the years, he has helped shape the committee’s strategic direction, championing sustainability education, stakeholder engagement, and environmental accountability within the global table tennis community.
Beyond his personal achievement, his role strengthens Africa’s voice in shaping the future of international table tennis administration. It also highlights the continent’s growing contribution to the sport not only in competition but also in governance, policy development, and strategic decision-making.
For Ghana, his reconfirmation stands as further proof of the country’s increasing influence within the structures of world table tennis, as it continues to make meaningful contributions both on and off the field.
With sustainability now a central pillar in global sport, Mr. Afadzinu’s leadership at the ITTF level positions both Ghana and Africa at the forefront of driving impactful and lasting change in table tennis.
